Nice Wahoo

Nice Wahoo

If you were to describe a perfect July day for Ocean City, today would have been it.  Sunny, hot, humid with a slight breeze……it was awesome!  I got to go fishing on the bay today with George Smith from Racetrack Marine in a gorgeous 22′ Century and it was crowded.  Lots of boats around the bridge, inlet and even behind Assateague made for an interesting episode of Hooked on OC with Dave Messick.  We caught a couple of throwback flounder and got to point out some “what not to do’s” from the boating that was going on around us.  It was a lot of fun and the episode will air this coming weekend.

The report from offshore was of some tough fishing with not a whole lot of tuna caught in the canyons and on the lumps.  It’s flat calm again and I’d bet money that has something to do with it.  Captain Jeremy Blunt on the Wrecker was overnight last night so he had the opportunity to fish times the other guys didn’t.  Captain Jeremy rewarded his crew with eight healthy yellowfin tuna, three mahi and a really nice 56 pound wahoo.  The crew also released a BIG dusky and were on the water for a beautiful sunrise.

Another bright spot in the tough offshore fishing today came from the crew of the Pumpin’ Hard.  The Burt boys had a great day on the rip with three nice yellowfin tuna and four mahi.

Captain Luke Blume of the C Boys had his crew in the ocean today, but it wasn’t his usual offshore fishing.  Today Captain Luke put Paul Crampton III, Paul’s daughter Harper, Christina Alo, mate Jon Henry and mate Joshua Blume on some nice flounder fishing at the Old Grounds.  The crew had five keeper flounder up to 21″ and one keeper sea bass on Gulp baits.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star party boat sent this photo in of Sarah Ferguson of Wilmington who had a fine sea bass on today’s trip.

Ocean City Guide Service with Captain John Prather had a good day of bay fishing today.  Captain John put his anglers on one keeper flounder and some nice “chopper” sized bluefish.

Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing had the Bad Influence on the bay today for some great family fishing fun.  Captain Jeff had the luck we had with some throwbacks, but the keepers eluded him as well.  It was a ton of fun for the kids nonetheless!

Captain Drew Zerbe of the Tortuga bay fishing party boat put this young lady on this evening’s pool winner and a handful of cash.
