Wish-A-Fish – Making Fishing Dreams Come True

Wish-A-Fish – Making Fishing Dreams Come True

One of the best things about the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Kid’s Classic Tournament is the Wish-A-Fish fishing trip that takes place on Saturday during the tournament.  Wish-A-Fish is an organization that provides fishing trips in Maryland and Virginia for special needs children and their families.  Wish-A-Fish currently hosts 100-125 families each year and the trip during the OCMC Kid’s Classic is big part of that.  My good friend Frank Goodhart with the Ocean City Marlin Club is a volunteer that puts in a lot of hard work to make this particular trip happen.  As the father of a special needs child, I can tell you from personal experience how much this is appreciated.
This was the 12th year for the Wish-A-Fish fishing trip.  There were 57 kids plus the adults that accompanied them aboard  The Judith M, Tortuga, and Calico Jack.  All of the boats fished the back bays of Ocean City and everyone on board all of the boats had a great time.  Total number and species of fish caught and recorded by the participants were: 28 flounder, 16 bluefish, 1 puffer fish, 9 sea robins, 1 trout, 10 sea bass and 1 grunt.  Following the fishing trip most went back to the Marlin Club for a cookout and awards ceremony.   Awards were given per boat for the biggest, smallest and most fish caught.   Also all 1st time participants received a rod and reel combo, goodie bag and medal. All others received a tackle box with rigs, hooks and other tackle in addition to their goodie bags and medals.  Kids Classic tee shirts were given to each participant at sign ins.  Kids from 5 to 9 years old received special hats from Wish-A-Fish and all participants received Wish-A-Fish tee shirts, hand towels and visors.   To date Frank has received $1465 to give to the Wish-A-Fish Foundation that was received prior to the event that were from private, corporate and service organizations.   There will probably be a bit more from the Kids Classic tournament participants.

Big thanks go out to Frank Goodhart and all of the volunteers that helped make this happen, the Ocean City Marlin Club, The Kid’s Classic Tournament participants and the crews of The Judith M, Tortuga and Calico Jack.
