Ocean City, Maryland is renowned for its exceptional white marlin fishing, attracting anglers from
all over the world. Known as the “White Marlin Capital of the World,” our coastal town offers
prime fishing conditions, especially during the late summer months. Ocean City also plays host
to several offshore tournaments during the season where white marlin is the most coveted of
prizes and anglers compete for bragging rights and millions of dollars in prize money.
The peak season for white marlin fishing in Ocean City typically runs from July through September,
with the coveted first white marlin of the season usually being caught and released sometime in
late May or early June. During this time, warm water eddies from the Gulf Stream come closer
to the coast, creating an ideal environment for white marlin and other pelagic species. Anglers
often venture out to the canyons, such as the Wilmington, Baltimore, Poorman’s and Washington
Canyons, where these fish are most abundant and there is a chance for other highly prized
