200 Pound Daytime Swordfish

200 Pound Daytime Swordfish

We had overcast skies for most of the day in Ocean City, but it wasn’t as hot as it was late last week so it was actually very nice.  The wind was light and there wasn’t any rain so anglers were out enjoying the pleasant conditions.

I got an awesome email through the website today from Megan Higgins with a great story about a fish that was caught yesterday aboard the Git R Done out of Sunset Marina.  It seems that the Git R Done owned by Spencer Allen and run by Captain Dave Schulte was out trolling 20 fathoms at the Chicken Bone with ballyhoo yesterday for the first family trip of the season celebrating Katie Burton’s birthday when they hooked what they thought was a blue marlin.  Katie was first up on the rod and then a team effort ensued with Megan Higgins, Debbie Schulte, Ricky Burton, Jen Burton , Mason Burton, little Kenny Burton, Emma Burton and Andy Burton all combining forces to get the fish boat side.  After a three hour stand up battle on a 50 TLD they got the big fish to the boat and were surprised by this awesome swordfish.  Swordfish off of Ocean City are not commonplace and daytime swords are even more rare.  To catch swordfish in 20 fathoms at the Chicken Bone on the troll is a one in a million. The big swordfish weighed 200 pounds at the scale at Sunset Marina and the crew also boxed two nice yellowfin….which I believe were the target species.  Congratulations to the crew of the Git R Done and Happy Birthday to Katie!!

Captain Luke Blume and the crew of the C Boys had a good Tuna Tournament this past weekend.  Captain Luke and mate Jon Henry put Paul Crampton and the rest of the C Boys on a nice total stringer of 245 pounds.

Today Captain Todd Kurtz and mate Tito from the Restless Lady put Tom Satkowski and his crew on six 50 pound class yellowfin and one gaffer mahi while chunking butterfish at the inshore lumps.

Captain Chase Eberle of Chaisin’ Tides Charters had a fun shark fishing trip last night.  Captain Chase put Dennis Dryer and birthday boy Harrison Helbig on four sand bar sharks, six sand tiger sharks and one sharpnose shark on a short three hour trip last night.

Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing has had a couple of trips the past few days.  Yesterday he and fiance’ Karen had a nice trip for some dinner where they caught a healthy gaffer mahi.  Today it was an inshore trip where he put his anglers on some fun inshore sharking with cut bluefish and butterfish on light tackle catching Atlantic sharpnose and spinner sharks.

Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had a double duty trip this afternoon where he put his clients on some good flounder fishing and some bowfishing.  Captain John helped these guys put a keeper flounder and a big southern ray in the boat in the south bay.

Meredith Conn from Chester, NJ caught this 22″, 4 pound, 14 ounce red drum on a squid / shiner combo by the route 50 bridge with Captain Drew Zerbe and mates Matt Harris and Todd Kennedy of the Tortuga.
