2018 Ocean City Marlin Club Small Boat Tournament Results

Happy Father’s Day everyone!!!

Chalk us up for yet another absolutely beautiful late spring day in and around Ocean City and offshore in the canyons.  It was really calm off the beach today…probably too calm as a bunch of boat traffic and the calm conditions made it tougher for boats to find the tuna that have been being caught in great numbers for the past week.

Today was the 2nd and final day of the Ocean City Marlin Club 39th Annual Small Boat Tournament and it was another perfect day.  I can speak as one of the participants and say that conditions could not have been better and there were a bunch of fish caught.  Here are the results.  Thanks to Amanda Shick for the pics!

1st and 2nd place     Fish in OC / Hooked on OC Carolina Skiff     1.8 and 2.4 pounds

1st, 2nd and 3rd place     Jezebel     1.4, 1.6 and 1.6 pounds

Flounder

3rd and 2nd place     Sea Craft 23     3.8 and 4.0 pounds

1st Place     Fish Magnet II     5.2 pounds

Offshore Division

Billfish Release

Joken and De-Bait-Able     100 Points

Dolphin

1st Place     In the Black     13.4 pounds

Tuna

3rd Place     Carol’s TeaKettle     84 pounds

1st and 2nd Place     Offshore Hooker     92 and 98.6 pounds

Like I said at the top offshore fishing was tougher today than it has been for the past few days.  One boat that was able to find them though was the Boss Hogg with Captain Brian Porter.  Jeff Williford, Justin Windsor, Nick Toms, Cody Wachter and Rhino Chrome reeled in 10 Yellowfin and 3 Dolphin on a flat calm day offshore.

Yesterday anglers on the Uncle Keith had a good day in the Washington Canyon in 69 degree water.  David Nolan leadered Cleon Anthony’s first ever white marlin after it piled on a lure on the way back rod at 8:30 am.

Tom Patania and Allison Sokolik had a good day in the Baltimore Canyon on Saturday and display a couple of their tuna here.

Flounder fishing in the back bay continues to be productive for anglers fishing in clean water on the high tide.  Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had a great weekend of floundering and also found some croakers on the bottom of the tide.

Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had some productive trips today in the inlet and east channel.  Captain John had a combo trip where he put some bowfishermen on some cow nosed ray action and a couple of flounder and another trip where he put some more keeper flounder in the box.

Bay Time Charters with Captain Brad McCabe was out for a short Father’s Day trip today and put a couple of keepers in the box.  Pictured below are Greg Donahue and Brad’s son Finn McCabe.

John from Baltimore has been tearing up the keeper rockfish in the inlet and at the route 5o bridge on Zoom baits lately.  Bear sent me a couple of shots of John from recent trips where he caught fish to as big as 44″.

The shooting for Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing isn’t showing signs of slowing any time real soon.  Captain Marc was at it again today putting shooters on some quality fish with some nice cow nosed and southern rays.

Marc Turner shows us that there are some kingfish in the Ocean City surf….and some big ass spider crabs.
