It was a hot, humid July day today, but with little to no wind it was a great day to be on the water.
The kids fishing the OC Marlin Club Kid’s Classic Tournament had a great time this weekend catching tons of fish. Thanks to Sunset Marina for these pics! Congratulations to all of the winners!!
The crew of the private boat Instigator had another tuna beat down overnight last night and this time the kids did all of the work. Congratulations guys!
Scott Mcauley and his crew fished 90 miles offshore yesterday and were 7 for 7 on yellowfin tuna taking a dock picture in the pouring rain.
The crew of Mobsquad Fishing with Captain Nick Sampson finished second place in the small boat release division in the Jimmy Johnson Quest for the Ring this week.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break had a couple of nice trips today with spot and flounder this morning and sheepshead and tog this afternoon.
Captain Monty didn’t get to run the mahi trip he planned today, but he still put fillets in coolers.
Tied her loose into glass calm baywaters – nearly that in the ocean too.
A fine summer day lay ahead.
Today had been scheduled as a mahi trip. Kaitlyn and Holly having caught our first inshore mahi June 26th, I confidently opened mahi to five days a week in my July 14th Fish Report. Saw a few – even an inshore grandaddy ..then we lost a day to a SSW half-gale and the ocean turned pea-soup green all the way to the Baltimore Canyon I’m told.
It’ll change; but yesterday I offered my mahi anglers for today a hundred bucks off and an inshore flounder/cbass trip instead. Having followed recent posts they were glad of it..
Bottom water is warmer inshore so the frustration of mounds of cbass on screen with zero bites is allayed. (that cold bottom water can change too, TYVM!)
Not really the fishing I’d like to offer – but it’s what I’m currently able to offer.
Hope easterlies push some good water in soon!
Anywayyy… Adm Matt, Jake & Lochlan were our volunteer reef builders today. Soon after deploying blocks young Mr Lochlan used his reef builder’s karma to put a mac-daddy flounder in the net. It held the pool all the way to the end!
Doing a similar trip tomorrow while I await clearer waters. Forecast is gorgeous yet unlikely to sell out because of switching type of trip..
