Scales just closed on an exciting day 1 of the 52nd Annual White Marlin Open and a BIG fish is taking center stage. 128 of the 282 registered boats fished day 1 and there was good action at the scales despite what sounded like slowish fishing. The White Marlin Open extends through Sunday now so teams have 7 days to choose their 3 days of fishing. Mother Nature has thrown some unpredictable weather at us this week, but the two extra days should help a lot. Here’s who’s leading after the first day of fishing. Away from the tournament, Captain Dale Lisi of Foolish Pleasures had a nice day for his charter with a load of mahi from a combination of trolling and bailing. Many thanks to Captain Dale for jumping on Live with me this afternoon!

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Fishing had a great day in the southern bay with ray for his shooters.

Captain Tony Battista of Saltwater Adventures had a nice day for his anglers with keeper flounder and loads of throwbacks on both trips to the Route 50 bridge.

Nick Smallwood fished the south jetty and landed this stud of a 12.01 pound sheepshead.

Chase Neuemyer caught this nice 18″ keeper flounder in the west channel on a minnow tipped Live Bait Rig.
Camden Meredith begged his dad to go fishing this afternoon and then said,”told you so!” when he caught these two keeper flounder.
