Big Black Drum

Big Black Drum

It looks like the weather may finally be turning the corner toward summer as we’re starting to experience warmer conditions on a more regular basis.  The bay is starting to be more and more productive every day and there are more and more fish being caught in the Assateague surf.

Local surf fisherman Allen Sklar hooked me up with these photos of a couple of big black drum that he and Bill Powell caught in the Assateague surf the other day.  Allen and Bill caught and released two “medium” blacks and two “jumbos” including this 43″er.  The big ones were estimated at around 50 pounds.

Brian Brannan and Derek Crossley fished the route 90 bridge today and had some luck.  The duo released two small rockfish and one 16″ flounder on Roy Rigs and pink glass minnows aboard the Late Bite.
