Canyon Kick-Off Day 2

Canyon Kick-Off Day 2

It was another beautiful day in Ocean City today with sunny skies, light winds and really warm temperatures.  I’m sure anyone reading this west of Ocean City would say it was down right hot!  We are looking at more of the same tomorrow so I’m sure water activities will be at the top of a lot of lists.  Like today, my water activity will be fishing.

Today was day two of the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Canyon Kick-Off Tournament and it was another good day of fishing.  There were more tuna and mahi that hit the board and a couple of boats had stellar days of marlin fishing.  Here are the standings after two days of fishing.

Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey was out in the deep today as well and he reported that it was “hot” out there as well.  Captain Joe had a nice day of fishing for his crew when they bailed some nice mahi and added two yellowfin tuna to the box.

Reese Vest and his wife Heather fished 60 fathoms inside the Poor Man’s Canyon today where Heather muscled in this 48 pound yellowfin tuna.

Inshore fishing was good again today and the ocean party boat fleet enjoyed calm sea conditions to boot.  Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler had a good day of bottom fishing with several sea bass and flounder ending up in the coolers.  Tom Adkins caught his limit of flounder today on the Angler and Tom Jones landed the largest flounder of the season for the Angler when he caught a 5.5 pounder.

Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run Charters has been doing really well with the sheepshead in the OC inlet recently.  This morning was no different when he put Daniel Case from Baltimore, MD on this 26 1/2″, 13 pound jumbo.

Nick Posterli sent me this photo of his big 27″ flounder that he landed while fishing solo on a reef about 6 miles outside of the OC inlet.

Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters had a trip this morning where Jacob and his family had a good time flounder fishing.  They had plenty of throwback action and one 17 1/2″ keeper.  Captain Chase is on the water right now doing some nighttime shark fishing and Chris Kelly has already released a 5′ sand tiger shark.

Captain Drew Zerbe of the Tortuga out of Bahia Marina had some full boats today and caught lots of flounder, but this cute young angler was the best of 80 with a nice 18″ keeper.

Joe Snyder weeded through a bunch of throwback flounder until he found this keeper on a white Gulp at the route 50 bridge.

My oldest son Jack is down visiting from New York and today he wanted to go fishing with his dad.  We hit the south jetty with some live sand fleas and were rewarded with three tautog that were released and one throwback rockfish.  Remember tautog season opens back up tomorrow with a size limit of 16″.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing has been working around the clock, but he’s also been shooting around the clock.  Captain Marc put his shooters from last night and today on some great action once again for cow nosed and southern rays.
