Challenging, But Not Without Reward

Challenging, But Not Without Reward

The wind was blowing a little this morning when I first stepped outside, but by the time I was done running errands it had calmed down nicely.  So nicely that the family and I gave it a shot on the bay this afternoon and caught two throwback flounder and one keeper at 17″.  The water was clouded up a bit probably from the recent rain, but as the tide got to the top of the high there was some pretty clean water moving in.  It was pretty good fishing in the challenging conditions and I’m betting tomorrow will be even better.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star gave me tonight’s title and feature image saying that it was conditions were tough, but it was worth the struggle.  Captain Monty had a nice catch of sea bass and flounder for his anglers by the time they steered Morning Star back to the dock.

Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had a couple of trips today that ranged from the back bay into the ocean.  Captain John was able to put his anglers on some keeper flounder once again and some catch and release shark fishing that included one scalloped hammerhead shark.

The Lucky Break with Captain Jason Mumford had a few successful trips in the back bay today.  This morning Captain Jason put his anglers on 25 throwback flounder with three keepers for the box and this afternoon Captain Jason had a 3 pound grey trout come on board.

The first report that I got today came in from G of the Fin City crew with a picture of a big old flounder.  G’s godson Robert Skutovas of Vienna, MD caught this big 24″ doormat on a live bunker in 5′ of water in the west channel.

Captain Brad McCabe of Bay Time Charters had the Campanelli clan out this evening for a beautiful time on the water.  Bob, Bill Sr, Bill Jr and Bob’s granddaughter Kyra put three keeper flounder in the box with fish as big as 18″.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing was back at it again today and had some terrific luck in the south bay.  Captain Marc found some big southern rays for his shooters today.
