It was a cold, windy one today in Ocean City. Crossing the route 50 bridge this morning there were even waves breaking on the shoal south of the bridge off of the downtown docks. It was blustery.
Conditions haven’t been the greatest for rockfishermen this season as yet another year is passing by with very few legal size fish passing by us inside the three mile limit. I was getting nervous that we were never going to see any fish, but thankfully some keepers were caught over the weekend.
My buddy Andy Urban fished with Kevin Sandleitner over the weekend and found some rock inside of three miles just south of Sea Colony in Bethany Beach. The fish ate trolled plastics and the guys caught and released one 26″ fish and kept two fish of 32″. This is nothing hot by any stretch, but its a start and with water temps still in the 40s we still have some time to get another shot or two.
My U.S. Coast Guard buddy William Castleberry took a trip down to the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel a few days ago and he caught some nice rockfish of 44″ and 46″.
