36″ Monkfish and A 57 Pound Rock

36″ Monkfish and A 57 Pound Rock

We had a reely cool start to the morning, but it had warmed up nicely by midday and thanks to almost zero wind it was a really nice day.  It was a great day to make the run in search of big sea bass right before the season closes and a great day for a young angler to troll Cape Charles, VA for some rockfish.

My young buddy Fisher Zimmerman was fishing with his dad Captain Willie Zimmerman off of Cape Charles, VA today when Fisher landed the rockfish of a lifetime.  Fisher reeled in this beautiful 50″ rockfish that had a 32″ girth.  The big rock ate a trolled eel and tipped the scale at a whopping 57.4 pounds!

Closer to home the sea bass bite was a good one for the local bottom fishing fleet.  Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had terrific sea bass fishing and also saw a big monkfish hit the deck thanks to Dan Iacangelo.

Hi Scott,
Took advantage of a calm forecast and ran off the beach a-ways looking for one last shot of sea bass before they close.
Found em too!
About a third of my clients limited. Gerald Meadows of Salisbury MD was first to seal the deal. He ended up sharing 8 more with less fortunate anglers.
Brian Keehn of Huntingtown MD took today’s cbass pool with a 20 incher
Dan “The Monk” Iacangelo of S. Bethany landed a 36 inch monkfish.
Also pictured are Carla Kotsifakis of OCMD – John Altfather of Centreville MD – Jeremy Thompson of Hartly DE – Bryan Werner of Denver PA – Rob Rosario of Salisbury MD – & Mr Limit himself, David Confair of Secretary MD…
Cheers
Monty

The Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak at the helm at a terrific day of sea bass fishing as well with several limits around the rail with some sea bass between 3-5 pounds.  The Angler also had some hake come over the rail to the delight of happy anglers.

And finally, Captain Chase Eberle of the private charter Chasin’ Tides Charters smoked the sea bass today and had a six-man limit of sea bass in an hour and a half with nothing less than 15″ going in the box.

Big Bird Cropper fished with Sean today and they didn’t have a ton of luck, but Sean did wrangle this short rockfish from the OC inlet.
