It was a chilly, windy day today and it looks like it gets worse before it gets better unfortunately. There is a chance for some pretty nasty weather on Sunday where the wind is supposed to blow hard and there is a chance of snow in the mix. It is January.
Yesterday was a much better weather day with light winds and warm temperatures. There was some cloud cover and the occasional rain drop early, but temps got into the upper 50s and the wind wasn’t bad. With the forecast for the weather that is on it’s way it was a great day to get out and enjoy some fishing. I got a chance to head down to the Pocomoke river on the Buffalo Hunter Guide Service with my good friend Captain Brian Behe, John Wittmyer from Crabs to Go and Dave Messick of Hooked on OC to shoot a new episode of the show to keep things rolling through the winter. We had a great day on the river where Captain Brian caught a nice bass, Johnny slayed the chain pickerel and I even got to land one of my favorite fresh water fish the black crappie. There were several other boats on the river as well and it seemed like fishing was good for small panfish. Johnny provided a nice lunch of crab cakes from Crabs to Go that Captain Brian cooked up for us right in the boat and as usual Dave Messick got some reely nice pics. If you’re looking for something fun and productive to do this winter to shake off the doldrums Captain Brian provides a great trip.
John Abbott and Mark Wheatley rolled by us yesterday during our trip and sent a few photos of their success while they were out. John and Mark were targeting crappie and yellow perch and they did well. The guys had several nice crappie and yellow perch that were big enough to keep and fillet and they also had a couple of chain pickerel.
