It was another beautiful spring day in and around Ocean City today. There was a little wind to contend with, but temperatures were well above normal for this time of year and the sun was out so it was a good day to be on the water. I was in the yard one more day before the Fish in OC skiff goes back in the water to give the flounder another try as water temps get better and better everyday.
Captain Jeff Coats and his wife Karen were out on the water #enjoying Karen’s day off. They tried for flounder with their new Fish in OC Deadly Doubles for a while with no luck and then switched gears and tried the route 50 bridge for some rockfish. The action was good with small fish that were released and caught on Roy Rigs and Karen even caught one on a Deadly Double with a white Gulp swimming mullet.
My buddies Big Bird Cropper and John Wittmyer of Crabs to Go were out fishing the bay today and had some luck with the small rockfish. Bird reported a pretty significant temperature difference between the inlet and spots to the north. The inlet temp was a chilly 47, but the Thorofare was 55 and the route 90 bridge was 57.
Bob Haltmeier of the Oceanic Pier in downtown Ocean City reported some more schoolie rockfish action from the pier again today. Small bucktails and spec rigs are the baits of choice.
Louden Swain fished Wachapreague, VA yesterday with his dad Randy and had some great luck with the flounder. The guys boxed six nice keepers in few short hours on the outgoing tide.
