It was an absolutely beautiful day today in Ocean City with sunny skies and very, very warm temperatures for this time of year. The wind did puff up pretty good out of the south and west a few times today, but it was another day too good to pass up getting on the water. I am a very lucky man to call fishing my job so whenever I get the chance to get out….I do.
My wife Kristen and I decided to hit the Thorofare this morning to take advantage of the awesome flounder bite that has been going on there and we were rewarded with some really good fishing once again. We got there about mid-outgoing tide, but the water was still nice and clean and it was 60 degrees so we figured we might have some luck. The wind was blowing hard enough out of the west to give us a drift at more than one knot so we decided to let Mother Nature take the wheel. We only fished for about 2 hours and found success with both chartreuse and pink Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs with 4″ and 5″ white Gulp. I had two keepers of 17 1/2″ and 18 1/2″ and Kristen had a nice 19 1/2″ fish. We also released another 9 fish, four of which were 16″ or better.
Funny story…..I set the timer on my phone to take the picture since we were by ourselves and I dropped one of the fish as the timer went off capturing this awesome shot.
Bluefish are thick as molasses in the inlet between the south jetty and the route 50 bridge. Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had 44 snapper sized blues in just an hour today as several of the fish came over the rail two at a time.
Cayman Man had his Roy Rig working overtime today at the Oceanic Pier where he caught some shad and some snapper bluefish.
Bear down at the Oceanic Pier also sent this photo of David who was smoking the small bluefish from the pier this afternoon.
