The World’s largest billfish tournament begins Monday in the 42nd Annual White Marlin Open. There are 305 boats entered in this year’s event so it should be a good one. Boats are permitted to fish three of five days this week from lines in at 8:30 AM until lines out at 3:30 PM each day. Monday’s weather looks good, and from the buzz on the dock it sounds like most boats that are entered are going to be taking advantage of it so the scales action should be really good. There are prizes for white marlin, blue marlin, tuna, wahoo, mahi and shark. As the week goes on, the tension will build as millions of dollars can hang in the balance of the scales. All of the action takes place at Harbor Island on 14th street in Ocean City. Scales will be open Monday through Friday from 4 PM until 9:15 PM each night so stop by and see all of the action. The offshore fleet was at the dock today as boats were doing their last preparations for the start of The White Marlin Open, but Captain John Prather on the Ocean City Guide Service was up to his flounder killing ways again. Captain John had two trips today on inshore wrecks that produced several throwback flounder and some keepers. One trip had seven keepers and another had this little guy with four keepers. There are a lot of throwbacks in the bay, but if you want to get on more keepers the wreck fishing is the way to go. Captain John on OC Guide Service has got it down.
I have personally been catching a whole lot of throwback flounder in the back bay having a great time with the family. I still haven’t captured my first keeper, but I just broke out the Dale Timmon’s Deadly Double and that first keeper is gonna be coming soon. Here’s a Deadly Double living up to it’s name.
