It was another busy scales day for the 24th Annual MidAtlantic Tournament hosted by the Canyon Club Resort and Marina in Cape May, NJ with a weigh port at Sunset Marina in Ocean City. We’ve been covering the scale everyday at Sunset Marina for Hooked on OC and we’ve seen a bunch of fish so far. Today there were several white marlin weighed at Sunset that didn’t quite make the 65 pound minimum and yet another blue marlin that certainly did. There are two days left to get something done and some experienced crews left to do it so anything can happen. Here’s how it breaks down after day 3.
Wahoo
There was no change in the wahoo category today so the 3rd heaviest wahoo still belongs to the Lady Luck with their 49 pounder.
2nd place in the wahoo category is still held by the crew of the No Problem and weighs 54 pounds.
1st place in the wahoo category is the 57 pound fish caught on the Reel Desire III that was weighed in Cape May, NJ.
Dolphin
There was some action in the dolphin category today so the current 3rd place fish was actually in 1st place yesterday. That fish belongs to the Saltitude and weighed 23 pounds in Cape May.
The 2nd place dolphin is nice 24 pound mahi caught aboard the Nasty Habit and was weighed in Cape May.
1st place in the dolphin category hit the scale at Sunset Marina this afternoon and was caught by the crew of the G-Force.
Tuna
There was no change in the tuna category today so the 3rd place fish still belongs to the crew of the Operating Room and weighed 198 pounds in Cape May.
2nd place in the tuna category was weighed in on Monday at Sunset Marina by the crew of the Canyon Runner and tipped the scale at 199 pounds.
1st place in the tuna category belongs to the Plane Simple and weighed in at 214 pounds yesterday at Sunset Marina.
Blue Marlin
There are now three fish in the blue marlin category after three days of fishing. 3rd place in the blue marlin category was in 2nd place yesterday and was caught by the crew of the Fish On and weighed 437 pounds.
The 2nd place blue marlin was yesterday’s 1st place fish and was caught by the crew of the Ringleader and weighed in at 543 pounds.
The 1st place blue marlin was weighed in today at Sunset Marina in Ocean City and was caught by the crew of the Makara. Angler Chip Matthews wrestled the 566 pound blue to the boat in about :45 minutes to take first place in the category for now.
White Marlin
Up until today there was only one white marlin that had made the 65 pound minimum and that fish belonged to the Lady Luck and weighed exactly 65 pounds. Well the Lady Luck’s 65 pound white is now in a tie for 2nd place with another 65 pounder that was caught aboard the Reel Toy and weighed today at Sunset Marina.
The 1st place white marlin was also caught today and weighed in at The Canyon Club in Cape May, NJ. The Naps V caught a nice 71 pound white that is currently holding first place in the category.
