October Tunas & Catching Sea Bass on A Wrench

Yep, you read the title right!  We had some beautiful weather today, some nice bluefin were caught just off the beach and Captain Monty on the Morning Star had an angler catch a sea bass on a wrench.

Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters took the boat on a long run to the north and it paid off well with this bigeye tuna.  The crew also had two yellowfin tuna.

Ryan Kaley caught this 66” bluefin tuna today just six miles out of OC Inlet with Capt Brian Smack, crew: Robert Smack, Ben Harding,  and Alex Kasathsko.

Captain Dave Caffrey and anglers aboard On The Run had a great day in the ocean with a four-man limit of Seabass, a trigger fish and a puffer fish in just two hours.

Brian Reynolds and Sean Hitchens had a great day of fishing today with a two-man limit of Seabass, triggerfish, bluefish, black drum and some keeper tall.

Big Bird Cropper had a great time fishing the Ocean City Inlet today with little Roy rigs catching several red drum.

Nick Gunther submitted this photo of a nice bluefin tuna on the deck.  He and crew were 2 for 3 on bites.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a good day on the rip today putting his anglers on lots of nice Seabass. Joe even caught one on a wrench.

Sea Bass (and a few fluke!) 10/28/

Such a calm morning; creek and marina waters still, sun yet to rise, we tied her loose to find the ocean’s seas lain flat as well.
After a pretty good jog offshore, Adam shot a 24 block reef unit onto an experimental reef before we carried on.
Fishing was, well, fishing.
Certainly didn’t bite the bottom off the boat – in fact, many of the sea bass we caught were loaded with krill. That made it surprising they bit at all. Despite mate Joe trying to throw a wrench in the works (see pics! They were on sale at Harbor Frieght.. Mates Tanner & Jonah did same in 2020) ..by moving school to school we were able to find what few hungry ones there were.
One fellow finished the day with 14 – over half my guys were in double digits – toss a few keeper summer flounder in the mix then add 2.5 hours to the trip?
A nice day on the rip.
Witt boxed today’s pool winner (&, for the third time in a row, I have no picture of said beast nor even the contender. Tomorrow I will begin fiscal encouragement to ensure a better record!) Anyway! Despite lots of nice sea bass there was only one other contender for el grandé. That fish was missing half its tail & likely would have nudged Witt out!
Have a light rail tomorrow in fantastic weather – much lighter still come Wednesday while winds are said to remain fairly calm in light south-westerlies..
I haven’t had a single fluke for dinner this year. Gonna fix that tomorrow if I can get away from the helm!
See Joey’s secret jig, a sea bass that was way too hungry for his own good; and, at long last, a pic of my plotter at the hotspot..
Cheers All!
Monty

Ryan Garber and his crew had a great day at the OC Inlet catching 5 keeper sheepshead, a black drum and a tog.  They also released several tog and a small red drum.
