We had a beautiful November day today with sunny skies, light winds and warm temps. It was a great day to blow off work and go fishing…..so I did.
I hit the bay today with my very good friend Big Bird Cropper today and we had one of the better trips that we’ve ever had. We started at the “sandbar” where my very first bite was a keeper rockfish at 28.5″ that ate a 1/2 oz Thing A Ma Jig, then we caught a couple puppy red drum before heading over to the Route 50 bridge. We caught some more rockfish and some bluefish in the shallows of the bridge and then moved over to the deep where we dredged up a very nice bluefish, another keeper rockfish and a rockfish of 33.5″ that Big Bird caught and released. We finished up with some more throwback rockfish for an awesome day on the water. I had the GoPro along with me so I’m sure it will make a great YouTube vid and an episode of Hooked on OC in the coming weeks.
While we were fishing the inlet we saw Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters fishing the rocks of the jetty where he had a good time putting this angler on some nice keeper tautog.
Captain Jason also mentioned that there are a lot of 12″ to 15″ black drum being caught on the jetty so I thought I’d make sure everyone knows the limits and the difference between black drum and sheepshead. Sheepshead – Teeth – One long dorsal fin – No chin barbels. Size limit: 12″ Creel Limit: 4 per person per day. Season: Year Round
Black Drum – No teeth – Two separated dorsal fins – chin barbels. Size Limit: 16″ Creel Limit: One per person per day. Max Boat Limit: 6 Total Season: Year Round
Shaun Flaherty was fishing the Route 50 bridge today where he landed a big bluefish and a keeper rockfish.
Captain Dale Lisi of Foolish Pleasures has been having some serious luck with the bluefin tuna lately and today was no different. Captain Dale put his anglers on two bluefin for the fishbox of 72 and 168 pounds.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star found the ocean a little less welcoming than expected this morning, but by afternoon it had calmed down nicely and there were plenty of fish in coolers.
