Found Some For Lake Crisco

Found Some For Lake Crisco

Captain Chris Watkowski, with mates Ben Harding and Kolton Sheeler of the Spring Mix II had a great day of trolling with nine yellowfin tuna for their crew.

Anglers fishing on board Boss Hogg found some tuna  action with a bonus mahi.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had loads of throwback flounder and this keeper for Lake Crisco.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star put his anglers on some fillets for the cooler.

What an amazing weather shift yesterday. So glad I had cancelled Friday’s trip. Forecast wasn’t all that–didn’t seem too bad, but I went with a gut feeling & this time called it right.
A dense fog and hard ebb current were adversarial to today’s departure. Water rushing out was meet by remnants of yesterday’s heavy seas making the mouth of the inlet seriously unpleasant. Would certainly have been downright dangerous for smaller craft.
Once through the slop though we found the ocean doable; becoming more calm the further off we got even.
Couldn’t see 100 feet, but getting calmer.
Radar, lookouts, a loud foghorn & running lights were my tools of the trade as we worked our way off to Crystal Ann Brinker’s Memorial Reef. Once there Jenny, Maddie, Theresa & Matthew made two perfect shots with a small terracotta unit and a stack of loose block
..and then?
Eastward of course.
I had to hope my first stop wasn’t an indicator of the coming day. Fish on both sounders wonderfully – a tepid bite of one keeper and a few throwbacks was all of it.
Oyyyy…
Ambled on off a bit deeper and found em chewing. Quite the switch from recent trips; was a fairly decent pull the rest of the day.
Like it like that.
Not everyone did well; it is summer, after all. My high hook today, in fact, was low man on his last trip..
Lots of room tomorrow with a wonderful forecast. Not even ten knots of wind until mid-afternoon. Hopefully w/o fog….

Am emailing (posts to website) a Fish Report (sign up at morningstarfishing.com) shortly where I announce some mahi trips and a ladies only trip. Gals can buy one spot at $145, get the second at $75..
The idea is simply for my regulars to bring a friend; get some new-to-the-sport ladies to give this fishing a try. Only men aboard will be crew.
Some of my regular Lady Anglers have informed me it will Not be a bikini trip!
Aww Rats..
Amaya pocketed the pool – Ron was high hook..
Looking forward to tomorrow and the coming week. Taking my two favorite young’uns out on a private trip the fourth. This time we hope to see sharks!
Argh!!
Cheers, Monty
