Flounder fishing in the ocean has been very good for most of the summer and should get even better over the next several weeks. Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported a good bite with several limits around the rail along with some nice sea bass.
Dean Miller and Tracy Heltzinger were on the Angler today and had a good day with several keeper flounder including a limit for Dean.
The crew of the Boss Hogg with Captain Alex Beane had a nice day of offshore fishing yesterday with four white marlin releases.
Kai Cropper, Nick Smallwood, Mike Rutka, Daniel Ames and Travis Baker spearfished a nearshore wreck a few miles off of OC and found a 31 pound Cubera snapper and a 59 pound cobia.
Captain Jeff Beane on the Chit Show out of Sunset Marina put Henry, Bridget and Cooper on a fun day with some false albacore and mahi.
Captain Victor Bunting and the crew of the Ocean Princess has seen some good fishing over the past several weeks with sea bass and flounder on their wreck fishing trips and some nice tilefish on their weekly offshore trips.

Witnessed another crisp summer sunrise this am. Right photogenic really. Had cancelled yesterday for NE winds at 20. Though the fellows had some outstanding billfishing off in the deep Saturday, the NOAA weather buoy 15 miles offshore of the MD/DE line (Buoy 44009 – pops up in a search) showed I made a good call. Would not have been fun bottom fishing on my boat. Having Sunday wide open, I moved those clients who could to Sunday and found perfect weather for bottom fishing.
Luke and Gage made today’s reef block drop–but not before I’d done a sidescan east and WNW on the reef. That showed me where I will need to deploy reef units in order to stitch the whole reef group together.
And it is coming together.

Fishing wasn’t red hot. Was sure enough to hold anglers’ attention though. Several fluke over 24in plus a dozen ‘no measurement needed’ sea bass in the first 40 minutes held everyone to the rail.
Joe & Keith both had 3 seriously nice flounder apiece with Joe winning today’s tshirt. I should think everyone caught em.
One guy only fished part of two drifts and caught two fine keeper flounder.
I expect Shelly will be glad to have fresh fluke.
Andrew took the pool money for biggest sea bass & Joe was high hook in double digits.
Had a couple wire bottom rigs along the rail today – unusual. Those anglers weren’t keeping up. I had David switch em to boat rigs. With the water near 80 and super clear up top – a ‘clean green’ even – anglers needed their best rig this day. Using a wire bottom rig on my boat seems to me like having US Marines come ashore against hostiles with 1903 Springfield bolt action rifles.
I know those rigs will catch some days. A Springfield works too.
