Good Day of Fishing Before Another Little Blow

Good Day of Fishing Before Another Little Blow

Today was another absolutely beautiful day with sunny skies, little to no wind and above average temperatures.  It was a great day to be on the water.  Tomorrow starts off OK, but then we have a cool front moving into the area that brings a little wind, a little rain and much cooler temperatures heading into next week.  Have fun if you’re going to Country Calling….and pack a poncho.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had a great day today with angler Mark Debinski of Bluewater Advisory doing a little red drum fishing.  Captain Jason put Mark on his first and then second red drum of 45″ and 46″.  Both fish were released safely to swim another day.

Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters has been putting his clients on fish over the past several trips.  Offshore trips are producing sea bass, mahi and tilefish, while inshore and back bay trips are producing nice sheepshead and striper action.

Anglers fishing on board the Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak saw a slow start to the keeper sea bass action today, but when the fishing picked up it was keepers around the rail with a few flounder.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a nice day of sea bass fishing for his folks today too

Another grand sunrise greeted us at the inlet this morning, calm seas too. After paddling a ways we added a block unit to the Hull McKee Memorial Reef and kept going..
The sea bass bite was robust at times and the throwback ratio skyhigh. Everyone boxed plenty though. I thought Sea Bass Bob was high hook at one short his limit, but my favorite young man, Ralph, (@ 90yo?!?) smoked everyone in limit-plus territory (helped his guest!) Tim & Gene tied for the pool.
Old man Murphy (of Murphy’s luck, of course) must have had something to do with it; after my mini rant yesterday about the absence of age one (under 9 inch) sea bass, today we saw close to 20 – including a double!
That sure isn’t going to get us to the nearly 8K seen in one week of 1998, but at least some are being allowed on reef habitat inside 20 fathoms.
Doing a deep dive on it shortly. Promise – understanding why age one sea bass, once prolific yet now almost absent, are no longer found in grand number is key to creating a means of making sea bass more plentiful than ever before.
Have a fish report coming out soon and another reef update this evening.
Cheers,
Monty
