It was a little breezy today out of the south which made it WAY warmer than it should have been. Tonight into tomorrow the wind switches to the north and it’s really going to cool things down. We are looking at some lows that could reach into the 30s over the weekend and next week looks like a wash for most fishing with northeast winds forecast all the way through Friday.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters got out to the OC inlet today where he put his group on some throwback flounder, a keeper weakfish and three keeper tautog.
Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run Charters was able to get to the inlet today as well and his folks had three keeper tautog as well up to 18″.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had some good fishing today with some limits of sea bass around the rail
No gorgeous marine vista come sunrise this am, just lighter shades of gray until the fog turned white. Paddled on off a fair bit before Bob & Paul sent 12 jumbo blocks overboard at Big Dad’s Memorial Reef. It’s a fair sized barge. I so wish we could have cut holes in her deck. There just wasn’t time for working on that one. Came straight from McLean Contracting (TYTYTY!!) in Baltimore to Jackspot and laid on the bottom
..which makes it perfect for block drops. A bare steel deck isn’t terribly ‘reefy.’ But add loose blocks, block units & pyramids?
Pow!
And today it was too.
Nice fishing.
Bob was in double digits at 10 am on the nose – then limited at 10:22. He went on to pay the rent some as well. (Fish for the wonderful folks who let is store blocks!)
Unfortunately, by 11am SW winds were getting right gusterly. Whistling in the rigging & streaks on the water had my full attention. Looked to be about 20 knots of wind that had come too soon by forecast.
At noon I pulled the plug.
A young wind; was just starting to get saucy as we departed.
Letty took the fish pool. She and Ann were both limited. Bob was high hook by far.
And, TaDa! My greenhorn mate, Sean – a right handy fellow, did a fine job by any measure.
Going to put storm lines on this afternoon. Good bit of NE wind coming tomorrow and all next week looks like.
