The 43rd Annual White Marlin Open is in the books and it was an absolutely awesome event. I attended the awards banquet this evening and it was a well attended good time. All of the anglers that won money got to hold their big cardboard checks and get some photos and the Clarion served a great meal. All in all the White Marlin Open distributed over $4.4 Million in prize money Over $700,000 went to the largest tuna, and over $2.8 Million went to the only qualifying white marlin.
While the offshore fleet was busy trying to catch white marlin, blue marlin, tuna, dolphin, wahoo and sharks the inshore party boat fleet was quietly mugging the flounder. The Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak reports that the wreck and reef flounder fishing is really picking up and based on his photos from the past few days I think he’s right.
Captain Dean Lo decided to drop a piece of clam down after returning from a recent trip aboard the Angler and was rewarded with a beautiful 34″ keeper rockfish.
Captain Marc Spagnola on Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing has been dealing with some tough conditions lately, but is finding a way to get it done. Today he put his shooters on some good southern ray action.
I got a submission from Bear at the Oceanic Pier today that Joe and the boys from the OC Sharkin’ team caught another big sand tiger in the surf early this morning. Joe and the guys know what they are doing and always release these fish alive back into the surf.
