We had a pretty wicked thunderstorm roll through Ocean City and surrounding early this morning….not quite early enough for some as some of the offshore fleet had to deal with as they were leaving the dock. After it cleared we had a pretty nice day with warm temperatures and sunny skies. The wind did pick up a little out of the west as the day wore on, but it was nice out on the water.
The tuna fishing has definitely been better the past two days than it was for several days prior. There are bluefin around the Hot Dog, Sausages, Hambone, Chicken Bone area and just a little offshore of that there are some yellowfin so some boats have been able to catch both. Captain Jeremy Blunt on the Wrecker out of the Ocean City Fishing Center had a good day with the yellowfin around the lumps putting his crew on three nice fish.
Captain Stu Windsor of the charter boat Lisa out of the Talbot Street Pier had a great day with Tim Joseph and crew. Captain Stu put Tim and the guys on three nice bluefin of 40, 46 and 48 pounds and a 9 pound gaffer mahi.
I got a Facebook submission from my buddy Josh Twilley with this pic attached of Dr. Cutter Pae who caught a real nice bluefin on his Black Widow just south of Massey’s Canyon. The fish was 58″ long and weighed 117 pounds.
The water in the back bay was really clean today considering the amount of rain we got last night. The ocean water coming in on the high tide had a lot to do with that and hopefully run off doesn’t dirty it up in the next few days. David Herbst caught this 17″ keeper on a live minnow on the west side of the bay this morning.
I got an email from Dutch Workman this afternoon with a shot of some nice flounder that he caught out of Indian River Inlet this morning. Dutch had keepers of 17″ and 22″ that will make some nice #floundersandwiches.
