A 28″ Trout, A 38″ Bluefish and A 5 Pound, 15 Oz Sea Bass

Check out the tackle selection at Sunset Provisions on West Ocean City!

I didn’t know if I’d see many fish at all with today’s rain, but man was I pleasantly surprised!  Not only did I get plenty of fish pics for tonight’s report, I got some pics of some really big fish too!

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a good day out on the drink today, and though it wasn’t excellent fishing he did see plenty of nice fish come over the rail.  None was nicer than Wayne Small’s jumbo sea bass that was 21.5″ long and weighed in at a huge 5 pounds, 15 ounces!

Weatherman backed off the rain, wind & swell height – looked like a go to me.
Once we got a mile or so offshore it was indeed doable. Swells were long period and manageable; winds less than 15 knots and diminishing – forcasters were just kidding about the rain easing off, however. We had heavy downpours and periods with no rain.
Our reef blocks were gonna get wet anyway. Young Mr. Braden & Sean gave em a good shove. Time Braden gets out of high school they’ll be loaded with coral growths.
Fish didn’t seem to care either. Deluge or sunglasses, they just weren’t chewing well.
That sure doesn’t mean not chewing at all though..
Wayne Small of southern MD landed a super sweet cbass. Largest I recall in many years. His elbows are bent. No photographic shenanigans with extended arms. Just a big cbass..
Couple fellows want to look at OCRF’s new aluminum workboat. I’ll trade for a bigger steel reef!
Cheers
Monty
Captain Kane Bounds of the Fish Bound is off to a good start to the sea bass season with lots of limits of 15 fish per person for his crew.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break had a couple of very nice fish in his net this afternoon.  It was a keeper flounder for one angler and a beautiful 28″ weakfish (grey trout) for another.
Levi Dunlap and his crew had four keeper flounder in the Thorofare on the outgoing tide.  The biggest fish was 19″ and all fell for the Deadly Tackle Deadly Double in chartreuse and pink.
Big Bird Cropper and Shaun Flaherty had a nice day of fishing with a limit of big bluefish from the route 50 bridge and south jetty using Roy Rigs.
Rich Daiker and and Reece Schindler had two big bluefish this afternoon from the OC inlet.  The guys used Roy Rigs to catch fish of 32″, 9.75 pounds and 38″, 14.5 pounds.
Brian Reynolds and his buddy Joe caught a limit of bluefish in the OC inlet this afternoon.
Kevin McNelis fished the route 50 bridge last night and lucked into this striper that fell into the elusive keeper “slot” at 29″.
The Tortuga fishing out of Bahia Marina had it’s first of what I know will be many keeper flounder this season.
Away from the fishing scene, young Sean Kelley finished in third place in this weekend’s coveted Pedal Car Show during Cruisin’ Weekend.  Sean repped Pure Lure Gear, Fish in OC and Deadly Tackle in fine fashion to bring in a beautiful trophy!
