A Boat Limit of Dandies

A Boat Limit of Dandies

You’ve only got two days left to take advantage of the “12 Days of Christmas” at Atlantic Tackle!!

If I don’t get another fishing report before Monday, let me take the opportunity now to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!  Today’s weather was very fishable in the ocean and Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star took full advantage of it and put his folks on a boat limit of jumbo sea bass.

Underway a half hour early with a very light rail; at least I couldn’t count my clients on one hand. Just about sunup young Mr Tyler and his Grandad, George, made a perfect shot with today’s reef blocks on one of our inshore reefs.
We paddled
and fished
And paddled
and fished
And paddled
and fished
Oyyyyy! When the world’s worst tog fisherman caught a tog on sea bass bait, I knew our fates were not aligned..
At some point during our last blow, sea bass had heard a mighty klaxon warning. ALL of em had skedaddled east.
Man.
No Choice: we did too.
When I did find out just how far they’d moved? ..we caught a boat limit in 45 minutes.
Vic & I caught all ours on huge bare silver circle hooks – no bait – just a 13/0 mustad longline hook.
Kenny won the pool. I’m confident young Tyler had one of the best doubles I’ve ever seen.
Sure were some dandies.
Sure weren’t 45 minutes getting to em though.
Will try again tomorrow.
Have a few spots open in tomorrows calm for sea bass.
Weather after Christmas doesn’t appear to offer any good news of yet.
Jan 1st sea bass are kaput – closed. All toggin then. As ever, will announce trips via Fish Report – sign up at morningstarfishing.com.
I do not anticipate a banner year in tog. Oh no..
Having motored over miles and miles of barren seafloor today I looked for one of my writings on what I believe is one of management’s great failings..
I have personally heard the top of fisheries management say this about artificial reef – “It’s just a feel good measure.”
Very much true if one assumes it feels good: to catch fish; to enliven fisheries, coral and oyster’s spawning productions, to put back habitats–some lost for over a century–and watch waterfronts thrive owing the effort..
Here’s part of a piece from December 14, 2015..
Cheers,
Monty
