It was another beautiful day on the water for anglers fishing the back bays of Ocean City and for boats heading offshore in search of tuna, mahi and marlin. There were a ton of boats flounder fishing behind Assateague Island this afternoon and there were some good reports coming from the deep.
Captain Brandon Speilman of Reel Direct out of the Ocean City Fishing Center returned from an overnight trip today and submitted a photo with all kinds of fish. Captain Brandon had a great overnighter putting his anglers on seven healthy yellowfin tuna, one mahi, 20 tilefish, 70 black belly rose fish and one barrel fish. They were also on the ocean for one awesome sunrise.
Guys that fished day trips today had some pretty good luck around the Hot Dog and out in the Wilmington Canyon. Captain Jeremy Blunt of the Wrecker showed some consistency putting three yellowfin tuna and one mahi in the box for the second trip in a row.
Captain Todd Kurtz and mate Tito of the Restless Lady had a productive day with the tuna as well today putting some nice fish on the dock at the Talbot Street Pier.
Captain Luke Blume and mate Jon Henry of the C Boys had Cathy Drew and her crew on board today and had a good day catching two nice yellowfin tuna and two mahi. They also released a white marlin during the trip.
I got a Facebook submission from Rod Taylor reporting a good day on his Play Maker fishing the Hot Dog today. The crew caught three nice yellowfin tuna and lost a white marlin. Brett Taylor and TJ Compton display two of the larger yellowfin and Rod’s wife Pam poses with the fish she caught.
Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters has been having some great luck catching sharks while night fishing off of Ocean City’s coast. Young Joseph Farace caught and released this big 103″ sand tiger with Chasin’ Tides.
Captain Chris Mizurak on the Angler reported slower fishing conditions today, but they did manage some really nice fish up to 4 pounds.
The Morning Star with Captain Monty Hawkins had some folks on board today that sure had a good time….it didn’t hurt that the fish bit either. Pictured are Jeffrey Dimattei, Dennis Hutton, Michelle Short, Keith Landon, Shawn Dorian, DJ Hutton and Michael Landon. The fish were caught on clams, squid and Gulp. Captain Monty and crew also dropped their 18,000 concrete block on an Ocean City Reef Foundation site the other day.
The Ocean Princess with Captain Victor Bunting has been having some decent luck with a variety of species lately. Captain Victor has put anglers on sea bass, flounder and even some decent sized triggerfish.
It was another productive flounder fishing day in the back bays today as the water has stayed crystal clear on the high tide. Marc Bouchard caught his first keeper of 2017 when he landed this 19.5″ flounder behind Assateague on a 5″ white Gulp swimming mullet.
This photo came in from Chris Mauk who caught a 22″ keeper flounder and was accompanied by Tom Mauk who caught a 17″ triggerfish in the OC inlet.
I got a report from Ken Pfeiffer who has been having some great luck with the throwback flounder this week. Ken reports that he’s had at least 10 throwbacks every trip this week with few or no keepers. He also reported that pink Gulp baits have been outfishing other colors 3:1. Ken has had double header flounder on more than one occasion this week as well.
Bow fisherman extraordinaire Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing has been having tremendous luck putting shooters on the meat this week. Captain Marc has put happy clients on some nice southern and cow nosed rays both day and night.
