Another Big Sheepshead

Another Big Sheepshead

Chalk up another gorgeous October day for 2017….it was absolutely gorgeous!  I love this time of year when the weather is like this.  Cool mornings, sunny skies, light winds and highs in the upper 60s or low 70s….I’ll take it every day!  And when the fishing is like it is in the bay right now it really makes me love what I do!

There has been a pretty incredible run of sheepshead in the Ocean City inlet over the past few weeks.  There is currently no realistic creel limit for sheepshead in Maryland, but I think there may be one on the horizon…there should be.  The best baits right now are sand fleas and green crabs and fish are being caught on the north and south jetty.  Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters was fishing the inlet this morning and found himself a big 12.2 pound sheepshead while fishing a green crab.

Fishing down at the Oceanic Pier in downtown Ocean City was good today.  Bear sent me a couple of pics of anglers that had good luck.  Chuck from Mt Airy, MD caught a 20″ keeper on a shiner from the pier.

Killian from Pennsylvania had a 21″ keeper that weighed three pounds caught on a live minnow from the pier.

Dale from Fredericksburg, VA had this 18.5″ speckled trout on a live minnow from the pier.

Matt Ellis of the Ocean City Fishing Community had a good night fishing for flounder from the route 50 bridge last night.  Matt had some good throwback action and three keepers while jigging Gulp baits on the high tide.

John Wooldridge finally got out for his first fall fishing trip in the upper bay this weekend.  John fished with his son Grayson (6) and his buddy Willie Gray (8) and put the kids on several throwback rockfish on trolled plugs.

This nice keeper came off of the Bay Bee with Captain Cale Layton.

Inshore fishing is good and going to get better.  Make plans to fish our first ever Ocean City Inshore Classic put on by Fish in OC and Hooked on OC next Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15.  You can fish 32 hours from Saturday into Sunday.  Check out the event details here……Ocean City Inshore Classic
