Banner Day Offshore and OCMC Kid’s Classic Day 1

Banner Day Offshore and OCMC Kid’s Classic Day 1

Man you want to talk about an awesome day for the Fish in OC charter fleet!!  Today was a banner day for the offshore charter captains and their parties.  The weather was absolutely beautiful with plenty of sun and flat calm seas, and the fish were biting.  Now that the OC Tuna Tournament is over the chunking has started and it has been very productive.  There are still a bunch of sharks out there making it tough for the fleet to get a hooked fish to the boat, but the yellowfin are biting, so it’s worth the risk.

The marlin bite has gotten pretty good over the past few days in the canyons as well.  Boats are having luck with both white and blue marlin with some boats seeing as many as 15 fish in a day.

There are also a load of mahi out there in the canyons.  If you can find any kind of flotsam out there, there are probably mahi around it, and I’ve seen some fish as big as 35 pounds in the past few days.

Needless to say, the offshore bite has gotten good for several different species so the time to book is NOW.  Here is how the fleet did today.

Captain Rob Skillman on board the Moore Bills out of The Ocean City Fishing Center had a great day in the canyons.  Here is his crew with a 128 pound bigeye, four yellowfin and a white marlin release.

The White Lightning with Captain Luke Blume out of Sunset Marina had a good day on the chunk today. His crew landed three nice yellowfin and a 109 pound bigeye.

Captain Dave Black on the My Cin also out of Sunset Marina laid overnight last night and put his crew on a variety of pelagic species.  They had a swordfish, a wahoo and two nice yellowfin on their overnighter in calm conditions.

The crew of the Spring Mix II with Captains Chris Watkowski and Steve Selander fished the Washington Canyon today.  They caught a 50 pound yellowfin while chunking, released a shark, and caught two nice mahi on the troll.

Captain Joe Drosey on board Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina had his sites set on white marlin today and he found them.  Captain Joe put his crew on four white marlin releases and the fish really put on a show.

Captain Mark Hoos on board the Marli had a really cool day! Bill Sauer and his crew from Reading Pennsylvania had a banner day on the charter boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and Mate Mark Stephens. They landed 17 Golden Tile Fish up to 40lbs and a 52lb Yellowfin Tuna.

Inshore Captain John Prather had some great action with the stripers at the Rt 50 bridge again.  This time it was topwater that got them biting.

Today was day 1 of the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Kid Classic Tournament.  This is a great event for anglers that are 19 years of age or younger.  Kids are allowed to fish from a boat or from land, and there are several categories.   Here’s how the action looks after one day of fishing.
