Beautiful End to September

Beautiful End to September

It was another beautiful day in Ocean City today.  So beautiful in fact I just couldn’t waste it by staying inside and got out for a little fishing myself.  The sun was shining all day, the wind was light and temperatures were absolutely perfect.  Fishing was really good once again which made for an awesome last day of the month.

Offshore fishing is still really good right now and should continue for quite a little while if the weather keeps cooperating.  Mahi are thick in the canyons, there are still some billfish around and tuna will probably show up well as the water cools down.  Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey had a terrific day offshore today when he put his crew on four white marlin releases and a box full of nice mahi.

The crew of Spring Mix II with Captain Chris Watkowski and mate Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor had a good day putting some meat in the box with 35 good sized mahi.

Ocean bottom fishing was good once again today as well with the ocean party boat fleet putting plenty of sea bass in coolers.  Captain Monty Hawkins reported a good day of sea bassing with 5 or 6 limits of 15 fish and some triggerfish and flounder too.  Doug Schultz won the fish pool with a 21.25″ flounder.  Also pictured are Cole Marshall – Ted Dibiose – Randall Savage – Bo Shultz – Doug Green – & Chris McCormick all from MD.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler also reported a good day of bottom fishing with a nice mix of sea bass, flounder and triggerfish.  Captain Chris and crew also reported a balloon for Blume’s Balloon Round Up.

Captain Drew Zerbe of the Tortuga has been having some great luck with the flounder in the east channel on shiners and squid.  Steve McDonald and Ron Lukehart from Ford City, PA, Natalie Donato from Perkasie, PA and Rick Johnson from Ocean City, MD display six nice keepers caught.  Fish were boxed by the net wizard Serge Gardner.

Dave Beach was at it again this morning putting three more keeper flounder in the box while fishing from shore.  Dave had keepers of 17″, 17.5″ and 18″ on live mullet.

Michael Chan from Ellicott City landed two flounders (19” and 18 1/4”) amongst many throwbacks with Gulp & minnows behind Assateague near the airport on a perfect Sunday morning.

Captain Brad McCabe of Bay Time Charters had a nice day with Mike Savage on board.  The duo found three keeper flounder up to 19 1/2″.

Big Bird Cropper and his buddy Sean fished north of the route 50 bridge and put three keeper flounder in the Lost Time.

Like I said at the top I couldn’t pass up the beautiful weather today….and being the Redskins were on a bye it was an easy decision to hit the tide.  My wife Kristen, son Ryan and I fished the last of the incoming and had some good luck.  I nabbed an 18″ fish, but she got the best of me with a stud 12″ croaker and a 19″ flounder.  Photo credit goes to Ryan Lenox.

Dan Youngs found this 19″ keeper flounder in the inlet with a Spro bucktail tipped with a white Gulp.

Today was the last day of contest call ins for Blume’s Balloon Round Up, but Joshua and Emily encourage everyone to continue to remove balloons and other trash from our waterways whenever you get the chance.  The kids set a goal of 1,000 balloons by today and they blew it out of the water collecting 1,380 balloons total.  Congratulations to them on a terrific initiative and to anyone who took the time to participate.
