I was heading into Ocean City at around 8:30 this morning after an appointment and once I saw the bay my plans changed drastically. I hit www.fishinoc.com/tide-tables to check the high tide….High Tide 9:24 AM…..I’m going fishing! The weather was just too beautiful. Flat calm bay, a little overcast, warm, and a perfect high tide. There aren’t too many days like today left, so I took advantage of it.
I didn’t play hooky too long. I gave it about an hour, and even though I only caught one throwback flounder, a bluefish and a small sea bass….it was well worth it.
My buddy Nick Denny fished his kayak at about the same time this morning, but for a while longer. Nick reported some throwback action as well, but unlike me he did luck into a keeper.
The birds were working the north side of the route 50 bridge pretty steady all morning and I saw a couple of guys catching bluefish underneath of them in the 8″-12″ range. If you want some for the smoker or for shark bait for next season, they are a good size and there are plenty of them.
I also saw several throwback size tautog come from the north side of the route 50 bridge, and a couple that didn’t come splashing back down so they must have been keeper size.
When the weather is as nice as it was today take advantage of it. This is an awesome time of year to catch flounder, bluefish, sea bass, tautog and rockfish in the back bays of Ocean City. When the weather is this good there’s a good chance you’ll see the Fish in OC Carolina Skiff out on the bay.
