Today was day number 1 for the 41st Annual Canyon Kick Off Tournament at the Ocean City Marlin Club and the weather could not have been any better. We had warm temps, sunny skies and I’m pretty certain the wind couldn’t have blown a candle out. It was gorgeous…..and the fishing was awesome!
Captain Jake Shaffer of the Turnin’ Fins fishing out of the Ocean City Fishing Center had this beautiful 157 pound bigeye tuna on today’s trip.
The crew of the private boat Bar South had a great day of offshore trolling with some big bigeye tuna and some quality yellowfin tuna for the fish cleaners at Sunset Marina.
Ocean bottom fishing for flounder was silly good again today for some of the fleet. Captain Mike Robertson fished his boat Over$pent with Dave Gobeli, Andy Zimmer and Will Farneth and boxed up a limit of fat flounder on Gulp and strip baits.
Fishing was good for the MobSquad Fishing crew today who put these big keeper flounder on ice.
Ashley Ryan headed to the deep in today’s beautiful conditions and landed nice yellowfin tuna and very nice golden tilefish.
Lamont Hilbert fished Lake Atlantic today and caught sea bass and flounder up to 21″ on his boat Sea Bum.
David Crosby and John Friedfeld from Dagsboro, DE and Brad Stauch from Berlin, MD, had a good day out in the ocean on natural bottom with flounder up to 5 pounds jigging with cut bait and gulp.
Dustin Leichling and his crew fished out of the Ocean City Fishing Center today on an offshore trip and landed two yellowfin tuna, 19 tilefish and a pile of Black Sea bass.
Bryan Mindte of Sunset Provisions stopped by the route 50 bridge on his way to work this morning and caught and released some schoolie rockfish.
Eric Dickerson and his brother Jason Czajkowski used the Deadly Tackle Deadly Squidly in white to catch 17 flounder with 3 keepers in the south bay. He also caught the smallest flounder I’ve seen on hook and line.
Dave, Jared and Brad fished the west channel and the Thorofare and landed three keeper flounder of 16.5″, 17″ and 19.75″.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported a slow start, but a strong finish on today’s trip with flounder and sea bass coming over the rail.
The Judith M out of Bahia Marina had a great trip today with sea bass and some very big triggerfish.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a wonderful family trip on today’s beautiful ocean.
Sea Bass & Cutlassfish 6/30/23 Calmest of calms; wonderful day for a family trip. Just happened to have exactly that.
Jack Power, among top OCRF supporters of all time, brings his clan along on an annual trip. I don’t think the day could have gone more smoothly for them. After paddling a good while; Emily, Haven, & Mason sent our reef blocks down to bolster production at Lindsey’s Reef. We were putting trolling lines out, (always hoping for a lost tuna, or, more likely, a few false albacore we can use for bait) when I spotted a monster sized school of cutlass fish on my sounders. Opportunity knocked – we made bait. Had some fun doing it too. Somehow the clamor of delighted children always makes for a better day. Never did get bit on the troll. Glad we boxed them silver devils up. Dern sure got bit on the bottom though and exactly where I’d had a vexingly tough bite not long ago. Keeper doubles, some real dandies; had to vent releases for a short while when the wind fell to zero. Patricia is working on a record of some sort. She’s won the pool 5 straight trips. Hope these scoundrels chew again tomorrow! Regards, MontyCaptain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing laid the smackdown on some cow nose and souther rays today in the south bay.
