Best Fluke Bite This Year

Best Fluke Bite This Year

Man it is storming at my house right now!!….but I’ll take it.  My lawn needs the water and hopefully this front will take the heat and humidity off the beach with it.  It looks like we get a little reprieve from the sauna-like conditions for a few days before it turns hot again next week for a bit.  Fall is just around the corner and it will be flat calm and 70 before we know it.

Today was day 1 of the 60th Annual Labor Day White Marlin Tournament hosted by the Ocean City Marlin Club and I just got the standings from my buddy Amanda Shick.  After one day of fishing Fish in OC charter Spring Mix II is in the lead of the meat fish division and our good friends from the Brenda Lou are currently leading the billfish release.  Here are the standings after one day of fishing.

I got an email report this afternoon from Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star with the heading “Best Fluke Bite This Year!” and a photo that proved it.  Captain Monty reported tremendous fishing with several limits around the rail and he even had one angler catch the equivalent of three limits by himself.  Craig McIlraith of Marlton, NJ caught 3 limits of flounder himself today & won the pool with a 22.25 inch fluke.  Also pictured are Bob Houser of Carlisle, PA – Tom Taylor of Seaford, DE – Anthony Watson of Hebron, MD – Tony Watson of Pittsville, MD – Michael Bunting of Gumboro, DE – Dennis Sonnier of Salisbury, MD – & Sean Townsend of Parsonsburg, MD.  Captain Monty has cancelled tomorrow’s trip, but has made a special trip for Monday that will leave at 6:30 AM.  If you don’t want to miss this bite give the reservation line a call at 410-520-1076….RESERVATIONS WILL BE REQUIRED.  Right now the boat is wide open, but that won’t last too long.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported good floundering today as well with some limits around the rail and some nice fish mixed in.

Captain Joe Drosey aboard Rhonda’s Osprey had a great day of trolling putting Jack and his crew on five white marlin releases.

Captain Corey Kennington of the Boss Hogg had a good day offshore today putting two anglers on their first ever white marlin releases.

My buddies Captain Willie Zimmerman and mate Rich Hastings had their boys Fisher and Walker out today and put them each on a white marlin and a couple of nice mahi for the box.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing is busy this holiday weekend traveling between the rivers and the bay.  Last night Captain Marc put his crew on some nice shooting for needle nosed gar and today it was some big cow nosed rays.
