Check out our walkthrough of Atlantic Tackle in West Ocean City!!
I just now got home from a very, very busy day of scales action for day 1 of the 2023 MidAtlantic Tournament and I’m ready to get to bed. There were blue marlin, white marlin, tuna, wahoo and mahi that hit the scales and there are some nice fish on the leaderboard. Here’s who’s leading after the first day of fishing.

2nd Place – Big Oil – 69 Lbs
Heaviest Blue Marlin
1st Place – Pipe Down – 489 Lbs
Heaviest Tuna
1st Place – Marli – 205 Lbs
2nd Place – Talkin’ Trash – 195 Lbs
3rd Place – Random Chaos – 112 Lbs
Heaviest Dolphin
1st Place – Liquidity – 45 Lbs
2nd Place & 3rd Place – Big Deal – 32 & 26 Lbs

Outside of the tournament this group of anglers had a great time on board the Jacked Up with Captain Dean catching mackerel, flounder and bluefish.
Justin Staats and his crew used the Deadly Tackle white Squidly rig to land a nice catch of flounder from ocean structure.
Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported decent fishing with some sea bass, flounder and even a few mahi.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had to work hard for his folks today, but he did just that and managed some fish.
August as we know it. Bit of chill some mornings, others tell of summer. This a summer morn; ocean offered another calm day and we took it..
Erin, Debbie & Tanya pushed our reef blocks over atop perhaps our lowest profile reef of any. I think that was block unit six – reef sponsors will have no trouble seeing it on their sounders now. With our reef unit by the stern, we pressed on.. Man! Yesterday’s flounder action was brutal. Pain was offset, at least for most, by a nice sea bass bite. Thank goodness it was a XLong trip today. Much slower than yesterday even; nothing much happened until the current came WSW.. Then we got bit – slowly but improving. And better. A good day not to give up! Sure hope I sent em all home with a fish fry. Think so. Derned if it wasn’t a job. Cheers, Monty
