Big Bluefish Highlight A Beautiful Day

Big Bluefish Highlight A Beautiful Day

It was another beautiful day in and around Ocean City today and although it was unseasonably warm there was a nice breeze to keep things comfortable.  There are a lot of folks in town for Mother’s Day this weekend and that made for a busier day on the water than we’ve seen the past few weeks.

The first reports coming in this morning were from Bear down at the Oceanic Pier with some pics of some nice bluefish that were being caught.  This nice 34 1/2″ blue was good for a citation from the pier.

Andrew and his buddies from Carroll County had a fun day on the pier as well catching some nice bluefish and Kelsey from PA caught and released a very pretty 24″ rockfish from the pier.

My buddy Big Bird Cropper and Neighbor Dave had some luck with the blues today too.  Bird and Dave used Roy Rigs to catch and release several small rockfish and boat seven bluefish up to 31″.

I got a Facebook message from Rusty Daub today with this photo of Rhonda Daub with a big 33″ bluefish that she caught while casting Roy Rigs behind the OC airport.

A couple of our inshore charter boats were out with clients on this busy fishing day.  Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had my good friend and fraternity brother Mark Barnhart and family out for a short evening trip.  Captain John put “Barney” and his family on some awesome shad action around the route 50 bridge where they released over 40 fish on spec rigs with at least one double header by Mark’s better half….trust me on that one.

Captain Dave Caffrey has got the On The Run back in Ocean City and on the water.  Captain Dave put today’s anglers on some good tautog action on the south jetty.  The crew released some small fish and boxed three keepers on green crabs.  Remember tautog season closes next Wednesday until July 1.

Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing had a solo trip today on the prowl for some more flounder.  The elusive flounder evaded his capture, but Captain Jeff did find some nice bluefish while casting the south jetty.

The Tortuga with Captain Drew Zerbe at the helm found some flounder and bluefish on this morning’s trip.  Kim Oswald and Dave Mossop had keeper flounder up to 19″, 2lbs. 8 oz and Sandra Field caught a 5 lb bluefish on 6 lb test.
