Big Keeper Rockfish in the Bay

Big Keeper Rockfish in the Bay

It was a pretty decent weather day before it gets down right snotty for a few days starting tomorrow.  It looks like we’ve got a nor’easter brewing up for at least tomorrow with strong winds and plenty of rain in the forecast.  The wind blew a little today, but it was sunny and warm enough that the party boat fleet was able to get out for some fishing and there were some anglers on the bay trying their luck with the tautog, flounder and rockfish.  Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing lucked into some good weather as he tied the knot with his best friend Karen.  I’m looking forward to writing her in the fishing report as Captain Jeff’s wife for the future.

I got these photos from Bear down at the Oceanic Pier this morning who says John from Baltimore was at it again.  John caught these two beautiful keeper rockfish from the bulkhead around 1st street on Zoom artificial baits.

The tautog bite in the back bays has been pretty awesome for the past week or so as the water has cooled down.  There haven’t been a bunch of keepers, but there are a lot of fish being caught.  Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters reported in that the keeper ratio was up today and he put some nice fish in the box.

Ocean bottom fishing was good for the local party boat fleet today as they got one last day in before this blow.  Captain Victor Bunting on the Ocean Princess had good fishing for sea bass and flounder over ocean structure today.

Anglers fishing on the Judith M had a good day of fishing at the Jack Spot today returning with several near limits of sea bass with fish as big as three pounds, some flounder and some good sized bluefish.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported rougher conditions for today’s fishing, but anglers still put some good fish in the box.  There were plenty of nice sea bass and flounder up to 4 pounds that ended up in fish coolers today.

I had the pleasure of attending the laid back beach wedding of my good friend Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing has he married his best friend Karen Langford Kelly.  Captain Franky Pettolina of the Last Call officiated the ceremony on the beach in the inlet and Captain Jeff and Karen exchanged vows.  Dave Messick of Hooked on OC was the official photographer and videographer and my son Ryan was the official Facebook Live videographer.  The ceremony was followed by a reception/party at Harborside Bar and Grill and everyone had a great time.  Congratulations to Captain Jeff and Karen on their wedding!!
