With light winds and calm sea conditions many boats are still out fishing their 36 hour stretch of The Big Fish Classic. I’ll have updates from those boats as they return tonight into tomorrow morning.
I’ll start with a not so regular catch from my fishing friend Austin Ensor. Austin and crew fished overnight in the Washington Canyon and hauled in a 197 pound swordfish that they hooked on a 1 oz Joe Shute lure over a ballyhoo. The fish took the long rigger at 10:39 pm and took 2 1/2 hours to get to the boat.
The Spring Mix II was at it again today with another stellar catch of billfish. Captains Chris Watkowski and Steve Selander fished the Poor Man’s Canyon and put their crew on three white marlin releases and the 2nd blue marlin release in as many days. Awesome fishing from this crew!
The inshore fishing was good once again today on the Fish in OC inshore charter and party boat fleet.
Captain John Prather on The Ocean City Guide Service nailed the flounder on an inshore wreck this morning on strip baits. The biggest fish of five nice keepers was 23″.
This afternoon was another bow fishing trip for The Ocean City Guide Service where Captain John put his crew on some more exciting southern ray action.
Captain Monty Hawkins on board The Morning Star out of The Ocean City Fishing Center had a great submission today. In a week of almost all flounder, this snap…here Tina Nescio and son Alex from Garnet Valley, PA show off a pair of nice sea bass. Captain Monty also said that Alex had some skills catching two mahi and a LOAD of red hake. This earned young Alex the nickname “ling king” from Captain Monty.
Captain Don Hetherington on board the Judith M out of Bahia Marina also had a submission of some good flounder fishing saying that the Judith M is still catching the flounder and sea bass, and starting to see some small croakers.
