Bigeye Tuna Beatdown

Bigeye Tuna Beatdown

Hit the vid for the Daily Catch at Sunset Marina!

The wind is absolutely howling now, but before it started there was some crazy good fishing going on.  So good in fact that the offshore fleet was back to the dock early and didn’t have to contend with the wind much at all.  Unfortunately, it’s about to blow real, real hard so the ocean will be closed for business for at least tomorrow….hopefully the tunas are still around when it stops.

I knew we’d have a good report tonight when my phone rang around 10 AM with a report from Captain Brian Porter of the Boss Hogg that said that Captain Alex Beane was on board the Hogg today and already had a box full.  Boss Hogg returned to the dock well ahead of schedule with 6 huge bigeye tuna to well over 100 pounds, 13 yellowfin tuna and two very nice mahi.

Captain Andrew Dotterweich of the Fish On got in on the bigeye action today as well and put six stud fish in the fish box on todays trip.  Fish On’s smallest bigeye was 155 pounds and the largest was 190.

Captain Joe Drosey and his crew on Rhonda’s Osprey was first back to the dock today when they tied up at 1:15 PM with their own meat haul.  Captain Joe put his crew from Pennsylvania on three big bigeye tuna and 7 yellowfins as well fishing the Wilmington Canyon.

I got a crazy cool message today from Dennis with the below message and photo.  His daughter Haleigh just caught her personal best flounder in the ocean with the Deadly Tackle Deadly Double in chartreuse.  The big doormat flounder was 27″ long and weighed in at 7.5 pounds.  Congratulations Haleigh and thanks Dennis!

Caleb Powell found this 17.5″ keeper flounder in the west channel and tricked it into the net with a Deadly Double.

The Tortuga had some good fishing yesterday with keeper flounder on every trip.

Anglers on the Ocean Princess with Captain Victor Bunting have seen some good fishing this week with sea bass, flounder and triggerfish.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing get the job done again with some cow nosed rays and one gigantic butterfly ray that weighed in at over 161 pounds.
