After another round of some pretty wicked storms last night today ended up down right nice. It started off a little chilly with some dense fog, but by the time I got to go fishing it had cleared up nicely. I headed out with Chef Mike Johnston of the Ocean City Marlin Club for an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC to see how “Mikey” trolls for flounder. We had a great time and trolled up about 5 throwback size fish and three fat keepers between 17″ and 19″. It should make for a good episode of the show.
Speaking of flounder, I got an email last night from Jim Meyer of Meyer’s Pro Tackle Systems with a photo of an absolute doormat of a flounder. Jim manufacture’s the Meyer’s Pro Tackle System which is a great tackle storage solution for boats and anglers that don’t have one. I’ve got one on my boat and I love it.
Well Jim doesn’t just manufacture a great tackle system…he puts people on big fish. Jim submitted this photo of Sheila Stohler who caught this HUGE flounder on a clam bait while fishing their boat the Salt Shaker in Delaware Bay. The big flounder was 28″ long and weighed in at 9.77 pounds. Nice work Sheila!!!
I saw Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing heading out this morning with his wife Karen for “Karen’s Day Off” where she wanted to do some catching at the south jetty. Captain Jeff and Karen caught a “cooler full” of bluefish while casting Roy Rigs at the jetty and then it was an afternoon trip that produced one throwback flounder in the Thorofare.
Eric Mihaly sent in this photo of Troy Beard who landed this nice 24″ tautog in 65′ of water today.
Captain Drew Zerbe of the Tortuga has been having pretty good luck on Sinepuxent Bay the past few days. Trips are producing throwback flounder action, some keepers and some decent snapper sized bluefish.
There was good fishing down at the Oceanic Pier today and Bear kept me abreast of it throughout the day. There was some throwback flounder action, a few sea robins and some really nice bluefish that came over the rail.
My young buddy Danny Tobin caught this nice 27” bluefish yesterday on a Johnson spoon.
