Check out the Daily Catch at Sunset Marina!
Happy 4th of July Everyone!!
It was a little breezy out of the south today, but otherwise the weather could not have been more perfect for the 4th of July. Kristen and I headed out to the bay to check it out and made a vid and had some lunch at Harborside and I can honestly say I haven’t seen so many boats on the water at one time in OC in my life. There wasn’t a ton of fishing going on inshore because the bay was just too crowded and out in the ocean that south breeze had it a little bumpy. Overall it was a good….and very busy 4th of July!
Captain Kane Bounds of the Fish Bound has been putting his anglers on some fantastic flounder fishing over the past several trips. Captain Kane is seeing limits on every trip with some very nice fish in the mix up to 7 pounds or so.
Bryan Mindte of Sunset Provisions had his brothers in law Gary Finch annd Jon Genua out first thing this morning and lucked into a nice flounder and a bluefish at the route 50 bridge.
Speaking of the route 50 bridge, Shaun Flaherty fished there last night and landed this nice bluefish that was 33″.
Anglers on board the Tortuga had a great 4th of July with keepers on both trips to the busy bay.
The Judith M fishing out of Bahia Marina had a good day with sea bass and some very nice triggerfish.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a good day on the ocean with some stud sea bass for some of his anglers.
And suddenly we had a summer crowd. Lots of family fun this day. Challenging to adjust medications to forecasters’ underestimates of wind/wave height; but, all told, a successful day of angling.
One fellow, & no stranger to the sea, will have to attempt frying a goose egg for supper owing a singular focus on flounder. Meanwhile the kids were doing so well I was tempted to call “Adult Swim” so the parents could catch a few sea bass too.
Nah! If you suffer insult because a child outfished you? It’s time for a new hobby and a new outlook on life..
High hook was in double digits and never used a piece of bait all day – just jigged em. Special place in a partyboat owner’s heart for a client such as that! Chris from Alexandria boated today’s pool winner – a truly nice sea bass.
Carter, John & Caitlyn gave today’s reef blocks a shove atop Brian Sauerzopf’s Memorial Reef. A new site for our drops, I think it will benefit.
Have lots of spots open for National Hangover Day (July 5th!) Forecast is calm (& believable!) See morningstarfishing.com Fish Report.
