Word from the water today was that it was chilly and a tad windy. A cold front moved into the area last night and today we woke up with temperatures much cooler than they’ve been the past few days. Throw a little breeze on that and my decision to stay home from flounder fishing was an easy one. We did have some guys head out today and once again they were on the big bluefish.
Big Bird Cropper another of the over 300 days he fishes a year today and today it was with his buddy Dave Hrycyk. Big Bird and Dave fished the south jetty with Bird’s World Famous Roy Rig and caught 23 small rockfish and seven nice chopper bluefish. The biggest of the blues was a nice fish of 34″ and 9 pounds.
Ayrton “They Kayak Kid” Pryor of Spring Mix II was in the kayak again this evening with his buddy Jacob Lewis trying the bluefish again. Ayrton said the fishing was a little slower than it has been, but Jacob did manage to catch one nice bluefish. This 11 pounder fell to a top water popper in the north bay.
Report in from Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing was that the water in the south bay was “crystal clear” today on the incoming tide. I’m certain that there are more flounder showing up all the time so the next calm day you might see me out there on a low tide.
