We had a pretty chilly day in and around Ocean City today with a reel stiff breeze out of the northwest. There wasn’t much fishing going on in the bay, so I got a chance to head down to the Pocomoke river with my good friend Captain Brian Behe of Buffalo Hunter Guide Service for a an upcoming episode of Hooked on OC. I always enjoy fishing the Pocomoke because its a beautiful river with tons of wildlife and the fishing takes me back to when I was a kid catching fresh water fish with my Dad. The wind was a little brisk today, but Captain Brian has spots to get out of any wind so we were able to be comfortable today. We had great luck throwing crank baits and jigs and caught white perch, chain pickerel, large mouth bass and crappie. I caught a nice large mouth and Captain Brian caught a couple of slab crappies….he even cooked producer Dave Messick and myself a hot lunch from Crabs to Go!
Mary Mergott was fishing with her dad Dan the other day in the east channel and had a great day putting some flounder in the boat. Mary and Dan used live mullet to catch eight total fish with four keepers and Mary had the two largest at 20″ and 22″.
Ally Jones was fishing with her family over the weekend and landed this 18″ keeper flounder.
Super proud to announce that this year’s Edna Hodgen’s Award for Outstanding Service for the Ocean City Marlin Club goes to my two young buddies Joshua and Emily Blume for their Blume’s Balloon Round Up initiative. Joshua and Emily started the Round Up with a goal to get 1,000 balloons taken out of the ocean to help save the lives of marine life that sometimes eat the balloons and die. They ended the season with over 1,300 balloons collected and thanks to captains still reporting they are now over 1,400. Way to go guys! Pictured with Captain Franky Pettolina President of the OCMC.
