Day 1 at The 2023 Tuna and Tiaras Tournament

We had some crazy weather today….I know cuz I was in it.  I had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Jamar Campbell and Captain Kevin on board Jay Sea II out of Lewes, DE for a new episode of Hooked on OC and we had a great time.  We boxed up 20 beautiful flounder up to about 5 pounds and then headed home…..that’s when the fun started.  We had a big following sea from the south that led us smack into a thunderstorm right before we got back to Delaware bay and it was top three sketchiest trips at sea for me.  Strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, thunder and even hail had us on edge, but with an experienced crew we got back safe and sound.  Many thanks to Captain Jamar and his crew for an awesome trip!!

Today was day one of the 3rd Annual Tuna and Tiaras ladies only tuna tournament at the Ocean City Fishing Center and there was some good fishing.  Tuna and Tiaras has 57 boats with 288 lady anglers competing for thousands in cash and prizes.  Here is a look at the leaderboard after the first day of fishing.

3rd Place     Sea Flame.    168 Pounds

2nd Place    Reel Chaos.   175 Pounds

1st Place    Chain Reaction     183 Pounds

Heaviest Tuna

3rd Place    Reel Chaos    37 Pounds

2nd Place    Lucky Duck, Buckshot, Finatic    42 Pounds

The first swordfish of the season for Ocean City was captured today by the crew of the Wrecker with Captain Bobby Layton and crew.  The first sword weighed in at 100 pounds and was accompanied by some blueline tilefish from the south Poorman’s Canyon.

Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides has been seeing some good fishing in all parts of the ocean lately.  Big sand tiger sharks are being released inshore and bluefish and Spanish mackerel are being trolled up on the lumps.

Luke Wrye caught his personal best flounder of 25″ this morning in the east channel on a live spot.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing has been all over the rays again lately with good shooting for cow nosed and southerns in the south bay.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had some good fishing on today’s trip with some big bass coming over the rail at times.
