It was an absolutely beautiful day to be on the water today in Ocean City. It was hot, but there was also a light breeze to keep it tolerable and it was sunny all day long. The waters in the back bay were crystal clear on the high tide and there were a lot of boats soaking rigs trying to put a keeper flounder in the box.
Flounder fishing has been pretty good as of late with the nice clean water conditions, but there haven’t been a lot of keepers to speak of. The usual spots have been holding fish, but if you land a fish over 17″ you are one of the lucky ones. Maybe it’s a matter of knowing what to use and where to use it like our inshore flounder fleet does. There were some nice fish caught by some of our Fish in OC partners today and some happy anglers because of it.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break charters had a good day of floundering the south bay. Captain Jason had three nice keepers today on Zman minnows with one fish that was 4.5 pounds. Today’s big flounder came just a few days after Captain Jason put another angler on a big 6 pound doormat from the bay behind Assateague on the same bait.
The Calico Jack party boat with Captain Mike Giardina had a big fish aboard today too! Captain Mike put this angler on a jumbo flounder that was 23.5″ and 5.1 pounds.
Captain John Prather of the Ocean City Guide Service put some #floundersandwiches in the box today as well. Captain John put his anglers on two nice flatties on white Gulp baits.
I was able to do a little flounder fishing today with a big fan of Hooked on OC. I met young Danny Tobin at the Baltimore Boat Show last year and he told me what a huge fan he was of the show and that it was his dream to go fishing with me. That’s pretty flattering to a guy that loves what he does and has to drag his own son to the boat somedays. We had a great time catching some throwbacks with his dad Dan Sr. in the Fish in OC Carolina Skiff today. The pleasure was all mine!
The offshore tuna fishing continues to be hit or miss and today was no exception. There was some decent fishing, but nobody really set the world on fire. Captain Jeremy Blunt of the Wrecker had a good day with Big E and his crew catching three keeper tuna and a nice mahi.
Captain Luke Blume of the C Boys had the tuna snapping pretty good today, but most of them were of the throwback size. Captain Luke did manage a nice 50 pound yellowfin and a white marlin release for Alice Richardson and her crew. They also released 10 other yellowfin.
This Severna Park, MD crew had a good time on the Restless Lady today with Captain Todd Kurtz and mate Tito boxing a couple of nice tuna on a beautiful day.
Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina had some luck today with a nice yellowfin and a 70 pound bluefin.
The #gang had a short day today returning to the dock by 1, but the boys made the most of their Saturday putting a 92 pound bluefin in the box of the Primary Search with Captain Austin Ensor.
