Offshore fishing has been a grind for the past couple of days. The white marlin that were around in such good numbers a week or so ago have scattered and there is no real congregation of tuna to speak of in any particular location. The fleet has resorted to fishing the usual offshore spots like the Baltimore, Poor Man’s and Washington Canyons and trolling around to see what bites. Things should improve with the Poor Girl’s Open and MidAtlantic tournaments coming up as there will be more boats out in the canyons and that usually helps locate the good fishing.
Captain Luke Blume on the C-Boys out of Sunset Marina along with mate Jon Herny scraped a nice day out of the tough conditions. C-Boys was one for one on white marlin and found a fish basket holding a bunch of mahi that helped make it a good day. By the end of the day C-Boys had managed 45 nice mahi off of the basket and released the one white marlin for what I’d call a good day of fishing.
The Pumpin’ Hard with Captain Jimmy Grant and mates Mike and David Burt out of Sunset Marina had a good day of billfishing today. Pumpin’ Hard released a blue marlin and two white marlin and had another white marlin that wouldn’t eat. Jim and Sasha Motsko of the White Marlin Open and John Fager and his sons did a great job angling on the billfish.
Inshore Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing had some family fun in the back bay today on the Bad Influence. Captain Jeff put his young anglers on some great croaker action and had some throwback flounder as well.
