It was overcast and pretty cool as I was delivering Fish in OC magazines this morning and I even heard of a couple of scattered showers in the area. It was a different story after lunch as the skies cleared and temps climbed into the 70s making for a really nice afternoon. There was a pretty stiff breeze out of the southeast for most of the afternoon, but the water in the back bay is crystal clear so there were a couple of us trying to catch some fish.
I tried flounder fishing behind Assateague Island in the Fish in OC Carolina Skiff for an hour or so with no luck, but it was nice to get out and try it with the warm afternoon temperatures. I did see a land fisherman with a really nice bluefish caught by the Verrazano bridge on what looked like a bucktail type rig. The reports I’ve been getting about clear water conditions in the bay are very true and I’m certain that there are some flounder in the south bay. It looks good enough that I might have to try it again tomorrow before the rain moves in this weekend.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing was on the water as well this afternoon with the Bellison family having a great time with the schoolie rockfish at the route 90 bridge. Captain Jeff reported that it was a little slow, but the family still had a great time being on the water and catching some fish. Despite the look on her face once the fish was in the boat, Captain Jeff said that the young lady in the below photo was “super excited” to reel it in…..and that’s what it’s all about!
