The first official summer flounder of the season was captured today in Ocean City’s back bay and this time it’s not a joke. Paul Musser and Paul Musser Jr. have fished hard over the past 3 days looking for the first flounder of Ocean City’s 2024 season and today they were rewarded with a nice 17.5″ keeper. They found the first flounder of the season in the Thorofare in 52.5 degree water in a depth of 17′. A little deeper than I expected, but still reasonable. For the fourth time in the last six years the first flounder of the season was caught on a Deadly Tackle Deadly Double in chartreuse with a white Gulp. Congratulations to Paul and Paul on their catch!! I think I’ll make a few drifts tomorrow afternoon!!
Legal size for summer flounder in Maryland is 16″ through May 31 and will change to 17.5″ on June 1st. That size limit will be in place through December 31st. The creel limit is still 4 fish per person and the season is open year round.
