First Flounders of the OC Season

First Flounders of the OC Season

It was an absolutely beautiful day in and around Ocean City today and it was a great day to get out on the water and try for the elusive first flounder of the Ocean City season.  I fished the last of the incoming and the first of the outgoing tide in the Thorofare and saw water temps as warm as 58 degrees.  I didn’t have any luck with the flounder, but on my way home I got the news of the first fish of the season.

Jamie Metz was fishing with her husband Rob behind Assateague Island around the airport when she caught the first keeper flounder of the OC season on a tandem rig baited with an orange Gulp.  Congratulations Jamie!

While Jamie was catching the first keeper of the season, Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters was out on his first charter of the season. Captain Jason put his morning crew on some awesome tautog fishing around the OC inlet catching and releasing 20 or so throwback fish with one keeper.  This afternoon Captain Jason put his 2nd crew of the day on a nice keeper flounder of 17.5″ from the Thorofare.
