First Mahi From Our Canyons

First Mahi From Our Canyons

I’ll give the weatherman credit again today….he forecast today to start off with a chance of rain with light winds, but by this afternoon we were looking to have some heavy rain and the possibility of some severe storms.  DelMarVa was even in a tornado watch for a little while, but it has since been lifted.  We did have some windy conditions that started late this afternoon and it’s supposed to downright BLOW tomorrow so I don’t expect much fishing over the weekend….especially offshore where I just got some good news.

There is some nice looking water in the Washington Canyon and now there are known to be some fish in it.  Mark Handley and Junior Jemierez fished 1000 fathoms in the Washington yesterday and although they didn’t get any bites from the target species of tuna, they did catch two nice gaffer mahi on trolled, skirted ballyhoo.  The guys had water temps between 67 and 73 degrees with the mahi coming from the 73 side.  With that type of temperature difference there could definitely be some tunas in there so I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some in the next week or so from some of the offshore fleet that is planning on trying it out as soon as the weather is fit.

The report from the bay today was pretty abysmal as the water was very dirty in the Thorofare and when the wind picked up it got worse.  With the forecast wind tomorrow into Sunday it will probably take a few days of tide changes to clean it up, but there are flounder there so you may just see me out there!
